1. Avoid jargon.

When writing your job description, avoid using jargon that is specific to your industry. Use plain language instead of technical terms, and avoid using acronyms unless they are well known (like UPS). 2. Use a friendly tone.

It’s important to use words like “we,” “us” and “our” when describing the company and its culture. 3. Use action words.

4. Include must-haves upfront.

You should include the must-haves of your truck driver job description in the first few sentences of your document. The most important skills, qualifications, and experience for the role should be listed here. These should be specific and measurable so that applicants can easily identify whether or not they meet them. For example: “Must have at least 2 years’ experience driving commercial trucks within a 50-mile radius of our main terminal.”

5. Be transparent.

Being transparent is an important part of making your truck driver job description engaging. The first thing to do is be honest about the position, and don’t try to hide any of its details. For example, if your company wants someone who has experience as a long-haul truck driver, make sure you say so in the job description. Likewise, if they need a CDL license or similar certification for this position (which they most likely will), let applicants know that up front–it’s better than having them find out later when it’s too late for them to apply elsewhere or get their license/certification before starting work at your company.
