Retire to Retain

In the last episode of 2020, Tim and Jackie talk about what it takes to retain owner/operators and independent contractors. Jackie brings up the role of quality and consistent communication while still respecting boundaries, off the clock is off the clock.

Their first caller, Lost Boy, is an owner/operator who has been with his carrier for 5 years. His carrier just rolled out a “Retention and Retirement” program where the carrier contributes $1,500 annually to the trucker’s retirement account. Not only is this going forward but they backdated to the original date of hire. This is how to retain drivers!

Caller Two, Jerry, brings up an excellent suggestion of treating drivers like customers. They should be listened to, valued, and respected instead of being treated as labor turnover.
